Date: 1809-1821

Bibliographic Citation: Woodward, G. M. (George Moutard), ca. 1760-1809. The Genii of caricature bringing in fresh supplies. London : T. Tegg, [1809-1821], hand-coloured etching.

Notes: Printer, bookseller, and publisher Thomas Tegg specialized in reprinting and selling out-of-copyright publications, remainders and, until 1819, cheap satirical prints. Here people on the street clamour to view the prints his shop has for sale, while genii drag in new materials: jokes, fashion, news, and portraits.. The caricature suggests that demand for new material – Tegg published on average two new titles per week at the height of his career – was high.
