Title: Miss Murray’s album, coloured pencil drawing with butterfly specimen
Date: ca. 1829
Bibliographic Citation: Miss C.M. Murray’s Album, 1829 [manuscript].
Notes: This exceptional pencil drawing is supplemented by a carefully preserved butterfly specimen. It is found within a personal album filled with poems and original drawings. Some illustrations are mounted on the pages while others are sketched directly onto the album’s pages. Only a few are signed “C. M. Murray.” Others, when signed, bear different initials. The poems are written in at least six different hands suggesting that this bound volume functioned as a friendship album.
